Medical Payments coverage (MedPay) helps pay for medical expenses resulting from an auto accident, regardless of who caused the accident.
What MedPay Covers
- Hospital and emergency room visits
- Doctor visits and consultations
- Surgery costs
- X-rays and diagnostic imaging
- Ambulance transportation
- Dental work for accident injuries
- Prosthetics and rehabilitation
Key Benefits
- No-Fault Coverage: You're covered whether you caused the accident or not
- Quick Access: Helps pay bills while fault is determined
- Fills Gaps: Covers deductibles and co-pays your health insurance doesn't
- Broad Protection: Covers you in your car, someone else's car, or as a pedestrian
Who Is Covered
- You as the policyholder
- Passengers in your vehicle
- Family members driving other vehicles (in some cases)
MedPay vs. Health Insurance
MedPay works alongside your health insurance:
- Pays regardless of fault
- No deductibles to meet
- Can cover health insurance copays
- Covers injuries health insurance might not (like dental)
Typical Coverage Amounts
- $1,000
- $2,500
- $5,000
- $10,000
- Higher limits available
Important Note
MedPay is different from Personal Injury Protection (PIP). MedPay covers only medical expenses, while PIP also covers lost wages and other expenses. PIP is required in some states, while MedPay is typically optional.
